At the office of Dr. Jacob Weissich, we focus on helping people of all ages achieve optimal oral health through regular dental exams and hygiene treatments.

- Inspection of existing restorations like fillings and crowns
- Periodontal disease evaluation of both the gums and the bone around the teeth
- Oral cancer screening of face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, and gum tissue
- Examination of diagnostic x-rays to detect decay and determine tooth and root positions
- Professional dental hygiene treatment
Your Hygiene Treatment
Dental prophylaxis is a cleaning procedure and an important dental treatment for halting the progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis. Calculus, or tartar, forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments. Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is not firmly attached to the tooth surface.
Plaque is a sticky and almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that cause inflammation of the gums, and this is how periodontal disease begins. Our professional dental hygienist will thoroughly clean the area above and below the gum line with scaling tools to rid them of plaque and calculus.
After your hygiene treatment, we will also polish your teeth to remove any stains or plaque that did not get removed during brushing and scaling. Following your hygiene treatment, you may also need an antibiotic or antimicrobial cream. This is often placed in the gum pockets to promote fast and healthy healing in the pockets and help ease any discomfort.

Prevent treatments and exams are an important part of preventative oral health care. Prophylaxis is recommended twice a year as a preventative measure but should be done every three to four months on those who suffer from periodontitis. Dr. Weissich, and our entire experienced staff are dedicated to helping you maintain your oral health with regular hygiene treatments and exams. The result is a healthy confident, beautiful smile that is well worth the effort.
