How Can Cosmetic Dentistry Help My Smile?

Even when we take good care of our smile, most of us still have something about it that we wish we could change. Fortunately, there are several simple and effective ways to enhance your smile with cosmetic dentistry.

Whether you want to deal with yellow teeth from years of stains or say goodbye to tooth gaps, cosmetic dentistry can help you do all this and more. Schedule a cosmetic consultation or discuss it with the dentist during your next visit.

Cosmetic Services We Offer

Beautiful smile from Fresno Cosmetic Dentist

Dr. Weissich has helped countless patients achieve amazing smiles with our cosmetic dental services. We can enhance your smile through the following cosmetic options:

Bonding for Fast, Effective Smile Enhancements

One of the simplest yet most effective smile enhancements is bonding. The dentist can use a moldable composite resin to shape over the front of a tooth, covering a broad range of cosmetic issues. Chipped teeth, gaps, and discolored enamel are just a few of the things bonding is used to correct.

One of the most beneficial aspects of bonding is the ease of application. Since bonding is molded into place, it can be done in a single visit.

First, the front of the tooth is etched slightly to help the bonding hold in place. The dentist then shapes the tooth-colored composite into place, making it look natural and flattering. Finally, the resin is hardened with a special light. Once finished, you can walk out of the office with a brand-new smile!

Total Smile Transformations with Veneers

For even more reliable enhancements, veneers have a lot to offer. Each veneer is a custom-made porcelain shell designed to fit over your most visible teeth, concealing cosmetic flaws and providing a flattering smile aesthetic.

What Do Veneers Correct?

Veneers have multiple applications and are one of the most versatile cosmetic options. We can provide veneers for:

  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Worn teeth
  • Teeth that are too small
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Minor misalignments
  • Severe stains and discoloration

Professional Teeth Whitening for a Dazzling Smile

Discolored teeth can be dealt with quickly, thanks to professional teeth whitening. While whitening toothpaste and similar over-the-counter products may be good for touchups, professional whitening can eliminate years of stains.

Our office provides top-tier whitening using a professional-strength whitening gel. The gel penetrates the enamel to lift years of stains beneath the surface, revealing your natural color within.

There are two types of professional whitening: in-office whitening and take-home whitening kits. Both options have advantages, so it’s up to you to decide which one seems right for you.

In-office Whitening

Chairside teeth whitening uses the highest-strength whitening solution available, offering powerful results. Your treatment is carefully applied and monitored by a dental professional, who ensures that your treatment is uniform across your smile and works to minimize tooth sensitivity.

A single visit can be done in as little as an hour. You’ll be able to see on a color chart where your teeth rank before or after treatment so that you can be sure of your results. Depending on the staining level, your enamel may be brightened by up to eight shades.

Take-home Whitening Kits

For those whose hectic schedules make dental visits tricky, take-home whitening kits provide a convenient alternative. These simple kits include a customized whitening tray crafted to fit your unique smile to provide more effective and even results on every tooth.

You can use whitening kits to brighten your smile when and where it’s most convenient for you. Simply follow the dentist’s instructions carefully, and your teeth will be noticeably brighter within hours. These kits are also great for touchups before a big event.

How White Will My Teeth Get with Teeth Whitening?

It’s important to note that teeth whitening doesn’t actually change the color of your teeth. Instead, it removes stains on and just below the surface, revealing your original enamel color. This helps your teeth to appear clean and fresh while still looking natural.

Bonding, Veneers, or Whitening: Which Should I Choose?

If you’re dealing with a dull, dingy smile, you may look at the multitude of options and feel unsure about which one is best for you. The answer depends both on your circumstances and what you’re hoping to accomplish. Here’s what to consider about each option, and how they can benefit your smile.

Teeth Whitening:

The simplest and least-invasive option for brightening your smile, this is the go-to cosmetic option for many patients. A single session can lift years’ worth of stains left behind by coffee, soda, spaghetti sauce, dark berries, and tobacco use. However, if the discoloration is caused by illness or trauma, a more permanent solution may be needed.

Bonding:

For stains that can’t be bleached, bonding is a quick and effective alternative. Bonding is matched to the color of your nearby teeth to recreate a natural appearance. It can be applied in a single visit and requires only minor adjustments to the tooth. With proper care, bonding can last 8-12 years on average.

Veneers:

The highest-end option of the three, porcelain veneers complete your smile with customized cosmetic enhancement. Hand-crafted in a dental lab, each veneer is made from lifelike porcelain for beauty and durability. Veneers last the longest, averaging 10-15 years.

What if My Smile Needs Repairs?

A healthy smile is often a beautiful smile – and if your smile is unhealthy, it can have a dramatic impact on your oral health and self-esteem.

Until recently, restorations were always very noticeable, such as metal fillings and gold crowns. Fortunately, patients today have more aesthetic alternatives, helping them achieve a smile that feels great and looks just as good.

Composite Fillings Offer Healthy, Discreet Protection

Like bonding, cosmetic fillings use composite resin, which blends seamlessly into the tooth for beauty and protection. These fillings also bond well to the tooth and can fit into small spaces, allowing the dentist to preserve more of your enamel when placing the filling.

Protect Your Teeth with Porcelain Crowns

Crowns cover the entire tooth to protect and strengthen them in cases of damage and decay. What makes porcelain the material of choice is that it shares a similar luster and translucence with tooth enamel, giving these crowns a natural appearance and making it hard for others to tell you have a crown.

Invisalign® for Straighter, Healthier Smiles

Having straight teeth can make your smile more attractive, but did you know that there are health benefits to it as well? A straighter smile means a stronger bite, less wear on teeth, easier brushing and flossing, and less risk of a cavity.

For those with mild to moderate alignment issues, Invisalign can help you straighten your teeth conveniently and discreetly. As a clear, removable alternative to traditional braces, this orthodontic treatment can help to transform your smile without disrupting your daily life.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign helps to guide your teeth from their current position into a healthier alignment. While braces use tension to pull teeth, Invisalign uses a series of carefully-designed custom trays which apply gentle pressure to direct teeth into the desired alignment.

Who Can Wear Invisalign?

Many people can benefit from Invisalign, but not everyone may be a good candidate. It’s most often recommended for mild to moderate cases of crowding, gaps, and crooked teeth. However, more complex cases of underbites, overbites, and teeth erupted out of place may require more intensive treatment.

To achieve successful results, Invisalign trays must be worn for at least 22 hours each day. Since this requires a lot of discipline, we only recommend Invisalign to adults and responsible older teens.

5 Bad Habits to Ditch When Wearing Invisalign

Some habits are more harmful than others, but if you want your orthodontic treatment to succeed, consider giving these bad habits the boot.

  1. Smoking: Tobacco use comes with a variety of health problems, especially for your gums, which can inhibit or undo orthodontic treatment. It also stains your aligners, making your teeth look brown and stained.
  2. Nail-biting: Chewing on your nails is already bad for your teeth, and it can also damage your aligners.
  3. Frequent Snacking: While you can eat whenever and whatever you like, you’ll need to brush your teeth before putting your aligners back on. Some people find this frustrating to do often.
  4. Clenching Your Teeth: The pressure of clenching and grinding can warp aligners, and also negatively impacts your orthodontic results.
  5. Using Your Teeth as Tools: Like nail-biting and clenching, using your teeth to cut or tear is bad for aligners, so reach for a good pair of scissors instead!
